What began as a pilot is now a permanent part of Delft’s waste collection strategy: quieter, cleaner, safer, more flexible e-cargo bikes. This aligns with their zero-emissions logistics zone and reflects a wider philosophy: vehicles should be designed to service your city, not the other way around.

Every time we see hundreds of bicycles outside a high school, we no longer despair for the human race. To Dutch people, it barely registers. But this scene represents something profound: freedom and autonomy for young people—without the stress, cost or danger that comes with needing to drive a car.

In Scheveningen, the line between cycling and surfing culture barely exists. It’s a beautiful scene: world-class bike infrastructure seamlessly connecting people to nature, recreation, and everyday life. No traffic jams. No parking lots. Just the freedom to pedal straight from the city to the sea.

The Dutch landscape hides an engineering marvel in plain sight: thousands of miles of smooth, signed, scenic cycling paths connecting every remote corner of the country. The payoff? Often the smartest transport investments aren’t the most expensive ones. Villo!, Brussels’ public (e-)bike system, has one of the lowest barriers to entry: €1.50 per day or €3.50 per month for unlimited half-hour rides (€4 per month for e-bikes). At first glance, that might seem unsustainably low. 🧵

Brussels has long carried a reputation as one of Europe’s most congested metropolises: a city of traffic jams, polluted air, and streets dominated by cars. Yet in recent years, the Belgian capital has become an unlikely case study in how bold political leadership can reclaim urban space for people.🧵
