🚨Braids Estate update - I believe pausing the implementation of this scheme is the right thing to do at this time. We will have to wait until after the Standards Commission hearing in March before deciding what the next steps are. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinbur...

This amendment is technical, but would mean that all TROs would be decided by council officers unless there is a statutory requirement for a hearing. This only occurs where there’s an unresolved objection to a loading restriction or a one-way street, or a couple of other rare cases. 2/2

Green councillors have an amendment at full council tomorrow which would have the effect of abolishing #edincouncil TRO Sub-committee. This committee has been a block to progress on #activetravel & sustainable transport for too long, making decisions contrary to policy. It must go. 1/2

As one Cllr put it - I bet you most people don’t even know that bikes cannot already do two ways there, and good luck enforcing anything anyways. I look forward to watching this delay (not the defeat that it’s being spun as) amount to just that, a delay on what is just good sense.

In 2024 there was one fatality after a pedestrian / bike collision - in the entire UK. Meanwhile 265 pedestrians died after being hit by a car. So why was there huge focus on bikes using this one #Edinburgh street, but little about the vehicles using it? #motornormativity @ianwalker.bsky.social?

It's so good to have people advocating for safe and reasonable public access. Edinburgh is always full of awkward or dangerous diversions for non-vehicles due to road or building works, we need better consideration from contractors and council and shouldn't have to rely on this sort of action.

In 2015, London introduced Quietways and had started its Cycle Super Highway network. Criticism said London was too cold, had an old streetscape, wasn’t Dutch, the economy would be damaged, it was too hilly and that not everyone could cycle. Sounds like #Edinburgh now. Built it. they come.
