Living Streets Edinburgh Group is please to report that councillors have rejected council officer recommendations to encourage cycling on Rose St. We've no objection to exempting cyclists from one-way restrictions in general but Rose Street is a special case which should never have been included.

In few other northern European cities would vehicles be allowed to mix unrestricted with so many intoxicated pedestrians on a street with really poor pavements. If this was a rockfall on Arthur’s Seat or a toppled chimney, would the street have had some mitigations by now? 😔

I was delighted to attend the Lochend Community Road Safety event today organised by Living Rent and held at Craigentinny Community Centre. The themed cup cakes will go down a treat this afternoon!

Public transport rarely stops outside your home or final destination. The first and last mile walking or cycling is so much more pleasant, quieter and safer with a default urban/village 20mph limit. #20splenty for less noise, cheaper insurance premiums and 25% fewer people killed or injured.

One (small) win - the Council's new Code of Conduct for construction companies says: • Vehicles or plant should not be left idling • Generators and plant should be located away from residential and other neighbours and not left idling The code is voluntary, but idling is still bad practice.
