CEC's actions don't match its rhetoric at all. In particular, the changes made on Leith Walk and approved by CEC (eg pavements narrower than two people, bus stops in the cycle lane, continuous pavements) have made Leith Walk dangerous for pedestrians.

For as long as the City Council remains captive to the cycling lobby I shall continue to regard the cycling lobby as an obstacle to the needs of wheelers and walkers. Before narrowing pavements for the benefit of Lycra-clad speeders & Deliveroo employees, the Council needs to repair the pavements.

Pedestrians should always be top of the travel hierarchy. It's a shame that when cycleways eat into pedestrian space, it means it can pit one group against the other - and that's not what we want! www.edinburghinquirer.co.uk/p/council-br...

Living Streets Edinburgh Group is please to report that councillors have rejected council officer recommendations to encourage cycling on Rose St. We've no objection to exempting cyclists from one-way restrictions in general but Rose Street is a special case which should never have been included.

In few other northern European cities would vehicles be allowed to mix unrestricted with so many intoxicated pedestrians on a street with really poor pavements. If this was a rockfall on Arthur’s Seat or a toppled chimney, would the street have had some mitigations by now? 😔
