About 10 tickets left for 2 April at Baberton. Phil O’Malley & Chris Greive with the Green Note Trio. Baberton Golf Club Lounge Bar — should suit the music. A few seats going.

New local road safety schemes are up for approval at next week's Transport and Environment Committee meeting
@edinburghcouncil.bsky.social
. This includes the awful Merchiston Ave/ Rochester terrace junction - pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users have told us they feel unsafe here.

Coming to TEC next week, additional safety improvements for local pedestrians with some junctions to be improved, shortening the distance they have to cross, dropped kerbs, and slower driver speeds while doing so. Good to see this on busy routes to schools, church, parks, and local shops. 👍

Kingsknowe Road North up for some carriageway resurfacing in proposed Capital Delivery Programme, 26/27 list going to the Transport & Environment committee next week. Expect this will focus on the awful bottom section.

A multi-storey problem story: the thread about the Castle Terrace Car Park
Despite being a local history site Threadinburgh does like to try and keep things topical sometimes, so when news broke that car park operator NCP had entered administration with huge debts I felt it was an opportune moment to take a quick look into its most prominent Edinburgh location; Castle Terrace Car Park. Any attempt at a quick and easy piece of research and writing soon went out the window however as this multi-storey story proved to be far more interesting than even the most ardent fans of B-listed, reinforced concrete car parks might have imagined. It is a tale of city's aspirations of motoring progress, one that sacrificed a lesser public garden to save a greater one but that ultimately drove the city's car parking dreams to financial ruin.

In case anyone is wondering what all the red markings are for running along the length of the Union Canal tow path, there is a survey of underground services being carried out by Mackenzie Construction on behalf of Scottish Canals in relation to the towpath widening project.

We’ve waited long enough for Scottish Canals to come finish the job after they installed a new wayfinding pole, put the new signage up, and left the old pole in situ, somewhat detracting from the new signage. Work Request no. WR2611192 and passed to our Maintenance Team

Thanks to the fabulous group of geocachers that came out to Ford's Road today, joined by some of our regular volunteers. Despite not being able to wade due to the water level, and the area looking quite clean, we still gathered a massive haul, including a troublesome washing machine!

Not Just a weed! 😎 Ground Elder 😋 "This is one of the safest of the carrot family to identify, and certainly the most common. Its serrated leaves are oval with a point and always grow in 3 groups of 3 from a grooved stalk, close to the ground, before sending up their flowering stems."

Not just a weed 😎 - A very edible and very nutritious plant! Nettle leaves have an old reputation as a pot herb and can be included in many dishes as a spinach substitute. They were often part of traditional kail in Scotland – a vegetable soup eaten as the main meal of the day.

Confirmation from Scottish Power Networks the high voltage cables will be properly buried again in the next few weeks. An engineer visited today to check what we reported. It seems they likely just forgot about them. The cables are waterproofed, but of course should not be left exposed like that. 👍

Growing everywhere, this early season favourite, 'Cleavers'/'Sticky Wille' as most folk know it, is a great lymphatic cleanser. Fresh spring growth is perfect to add to smoothies, soups, infuse in cold water overnight for a cucumbers flavoured drink, or in hot water for an asparagus soup stock hit.👌
