New local road safety schemes are up for approval at next week's Transport and Environment Committee meeting @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social. This includes the awful Merchiston Ave/ Rochester terrace junction - pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users have told us they feel unsafe here.

Coming to TEC next week, additional safety improvements for local pedestrians with some junctions to be improved, shortening the distance they have to cross, dropped kerbs, and slower driver speeds while doing so. Good to see this on busy routes to schools, church, parks, and local shops. 👍

Kingsknowe Road North up for some carriageway resurfacing in proposed Capital Delivery Programme, 26/27 list going to the Transport & Environment committee next week. Expect this will focus on the awful bottom section.

Down at Ocean Terminal today with the crew visiting The Wee Museum of Memory for reminiscence & recording skills training from Living Memory Association with John. We’re going to be capturing people’s memories of living and working in Longstone as part of a new project this year.

Our community parks and the Water of Leith are bursting into life at the moment. Get out and start enjoying them. So many things to spot, identify, and learn about. 😍

Next week works are expected to commence on replacing the lighting columns along Lanark Road. Works will start at the Inglis Green end and progress up to Dovecot Park area. Likely a couple of weeks. Hopefully disruption will be minimal.

In case anyone is wondering what all the red markings are for running along the length of the Union Canal tow path, there is a survey of underground services being carried out by Mackenzie Construction on behalf of Scottish Canals in relation to the towpath widening project.

Thanks to the fabulous group of geocachers that came out to Ford's Road today, joined by some of our regular volunteers. Despite not being able to wade due to the water level, and the area looking quite clean, we still gathered a massive haul, including a troublesome washing machine!

Confirmation from Scottish Power Networks the high voltage cables will be properly buried again in the next few weeks. An engineer visited today to check what we reported. It seems they likely just forgot about them. The cables are waterproofed, but of course should not be left exposed like that. 👍

Signs of activity on the former Westfield Motors site at 35 Lanark Road. Site has been tidied up. Permission granted back in 2020 for student flats. Currently awaiting outcome of a request for ‘non material variation to the application and also an application for a substation installion to serve it.

Impressively they have already been marked up after reporting this afternoon. 👌
