It's alarming how many people need to hear this: racism is not the natural and inevitable response to the presence of (the wrong number of) racialised Others. It is a learned response, and as such it is contestable and replaceable. This is anti-racism 101. Entry level stuff.

Over the past decade, Gorgie-Dalry has seen nothing but Purpose Built Student Accommodation coming through planning. Now they want to build Purpose Built AirBnB. I have objected and I am asking the committee to protect this land for housing.

Incredible effort from the new Gardening Club at Gate 55. They’ve just been going for a few weeks and have already had a massive impact. Gate 55 (Sighthill Library and Community Centre) has been run down by the Council over many years now, but I felt real hope for its future seeing this tonight.

Saughton Mains residents will assemble at the Busy Bee at 2pm Thursday July 10th to demand that this mess gets cleaned up. The leaseholders, Mitchells & Butlers, made over £300m in profit last year - it would be spare change for them to sort this space out and give something back to the community.

2 more student blocks in Gorgie-Dalry were approved at committee today - Murrayfield Sports Bar on Westfield Road and WASPS Artists' Studios on West Park Place.

Granted it's Edinburgh leisure and not the council proper, but with some Google, rough maths and educated guesses, the six municipal golf courses run a deficit of over £2.2 million for less than 3000 members who are 90% male and mostly over 65.

Great to see the whole site being watered this morning. I was reassured in conversation with the contractor that the vast majority of the trees are doing well.

I have been advised that the whole site will be watered tomorrow. Thanks to Gorgie Collective for raising this and to Friends of Dalry Cemetery moving so swiftly to water the trees. We are so lucky to have these groups in Gorgie-Dalry - the trees would've been left to die without their input.

I was at Gorgie Farm yesterday with The Forge, who are moving onto part of the site. You can read about what The Forge do here edinburghforge.com. It's clear that they will make a positive contribution to the future of Gorgie Farm.

Update on my Pansy Walk motion, which was just looking for some tlc for the space (while stopping people parking all over the grass). Great to see trees planted and effort made to stop parking during Murrayfield events, but still much more to be done.

Just listened - Sarwar really has perfected the amiable banterman routine but can't obscure his complete lack of politics. All he has to say is he'll 'get stuff done' and 'do stuff better'. Another vacuous career politician who can only serve to empower the far right.

My request fell after Labour withdrew support at the last minute under pressure from their Tory partners. Along with my ward colleagues, Dan Heap, Cathy Fullerton and Denis Dixon, I will continue to fight for funding for Gorgie Farm.

My budget motion requests funding for Gorgie Farm. The new local charity that has recently taken on the site is well placed to secure significant external funding in the future, but some early support from the Council would really help them to get going.

Not sure what the Chamber of Commerce mean by 'more transparency'. Presumably just 'let us decide how the proceeds are spent'. Also, the levy has not been confirmed as 5%. That is the officer recommendation. I hope councillors will vote for a much higher rate.
