An excellent history of fascism in Ireland. What stands out for me is how ludicrous, unhinged, but extremely dangerous these people were/are. O'Duffy's Blueshirts for eg had *huge* support in the 30s, far greater than Mosley in Britain, and a very serious chance of taking power. We should beware.

When trees grow together as natural forests, they provide each other with mutual protection, and create their own micro-climate within. In prehistory, trees along the Irish Atlantic may have become very big at the base 100s of years of growth, but probably less tall than more sheltered locations.

Visited the Isle of Wight several years ago, where they don't have deer. I was amazed how different the woods were, without the damage that deer cause.

In Ontario, they've reintroduced turkey and elk with success. Which in turn seems to have benefitted the overall ecosystem, foxes and coyotes for instance. I like more predators around, it keeps the raccoons from becoming to comfortable in one place.
