This is a good thread. I'll also add that more men need to mind their business instead of dictate what women do, including but not limited to how women choose to dress themselves

While I appreciate the sentiment around wanting to make designs "simple," I tend to find its a catch all term to describe many different things. Product makers tend to use this word and mean like 20 different things, like, reduced cognitive load, minimal interfaces, increased funnels for leads

I think anytime a design manager puts pressure to present work, it often comes off as for purely bureaucratic reasons more than anything else If it's framed as "this will help you now and for the future whenever you talk about this project".. that's a lot more incentivizing and motivating imo

I didn't particularly enjoy working in a top-down environment that required a more intense level of stakeholder management than what I'm normally used to, but.. having polished presentations makes writing case studies about lot easier, that's for sure

It's awkward to end a case study like "and then I didn't get to finish this project" but when that's the state of the industry... 🤷🏻♀️ I swear I'm a good designer, I don't make these decisions, please give me money 🙏🏻

Getting emails from recruiter places about design jobs that are offering $18-$20 an hour. People, I got $16 an hour at my very first production design gig more than 25 years ago. Adjusting for inflation that's equivalent to getting kicked in the teeth.

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand” Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

I really don't like the "just disable it" argument for AI features.. Just seems to ignore the broader/ethical reasons people have issues with AI It's just a less hostile version of the "it's here and it's never going to go away, so get used to it" argument

I'm still profoundly irritated with Google's Gmail shenanigans. One of the first principles of good UI/UX design is that you want your interface to be so unobtrusive that users don't have to think about it. If you bury functionality >3 clicks deep, people won't use it.

it’s so funny that every commercial for every tech product tries to show the practical uses of AI and it’s just somebody saying to their phone or their sunglasses or their hat or whatever “hey AI, is it gonna rain today” and then a robot voice saying “nope, there’s no rain forecast until tuesday”

This interview is a snapshot into where tech companies are with online harassment right now. They know how to end it, but they decided not to spend the money. They’re prioritizing growth (and profit) above all else. And they’re blaming YOU for logging on to the platform they designed to be unsafe.
