An analysis of over 14 million social media posts from accounts in Canada found that 87% of conspiratorial claims come from just 100 influencers. This minority of users impacts politics, influencing what people view as normal and leads to self-censoring to avoid attacks from conspiracy theorists.

The most common misconception about consumer privacy is the idea that some company is going to hide you from the FBI for $5/month. Either they're lying or misleading you, or they genuinely haven't been pressured into complying (because they aren't a significant barrier to the FBI finding you).

This video is well worth watching. It's a balanced, real-world look at the effectiveness of AI (across many disciplines, not just software dev) and its impact on work, substantiated by a well-designed study that actually compares UI to human workers.

Artificial intelligence has been hailed as one of the most transformative technologies of the century. That may be so, but just not yet. In this episode, we take a look at a study that pits humans directly against AI for paid work. The results were surprising. Study here: https://www.remotelabor.a

Bluesky devs mocking their own user base and getting overly defensive about vibe coding is a REALLY bad look. I work on extremely public work and when users don’t like what we do, my job is to stfu and listen. It’s at minimum incredibly unprofessional to be doing this rn.

One of the weird things to me is when companies hire third parties to do big redesigns that ultimately look like a hodgepodge of that company's competition Like you could probably save money and do your copying in-house lol

As an aside, this mindset is often described as "lean" because you skip the "waste" of low fidelity work. Buddy, no. Low fidelity is not the waste. Work in low fidelity is what prevents the high detail work from being waste. Lean is when cheap-as-free sketches are all you need to avoid that waste.

Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.

The answer to problems in sociotechnical systems is not always "more software", "better software" or "open source software". A lot of the time the best solution is _less software_ and sometimes even _no software_.

Anthropic's defiance of the Pentagon's A.I. orders was undeniably brave, a welcome contrast with Big Tech's general approach to the Trump admin. but the resistance folks shooting Claude to the top of the app charts need to understand that Anthropic is not very principled, and is not your friend:
