health reporters are generally in the business of trying to report the truth. political reporters at the NYT are hired to report what politicians say, and to deliberately ignore the truth (if they have any idea what it is.)

There was no experience like staying up late to watch this on broadcast TV, knowing that all over the country people would be simultaneously saying "what the fuck just happened there, then?" at exactly the same time as you.

Your regular reminder that trying to 'cure' autism or queerness is as medically implausible as 'curing' left-handedness, aversion to coriander, or not being able to roll your tongue. They are part of normal human variation and will keep showing up in every population in roughly the same proportions.

I often think how among all the other things it is against, fascism (and its attendant authoritarianisms and make-believes) is fundamentally a war against complexity—against the inherent complexity and multiplicity of the universe and social reality—and against any efforts to understand them as such

The label of a drug is close to a sacrosanct document. It represents the trust between the government and the user of the drug that the drug is safe and effective and that all risks and benefits are accurately outlined. Changing it to suit a political agenda is imo an earthshaking matter

I know this is a radical position that will probably enrage people But hear me out: What if this thing we call autism is just the way some peoples’ brains work Not an illness. Not a brain injury. Not a defect. Some. Peoples’. Brains. Are. Different. And they don’t need to be fixed
