Sometimes I think how it's a straight line (a single dot?) from "how come Americans didn't realise who the bad guys in Starship Troopers were" to the year 2025.

Noting, apropos of nothing, that there is exactly one MP who was in Parliament - and on the government benches in fact - when the Springbok tour went ahead. Fitting, given a speech he gave today.

In 1976, African nations boycotted the Montreal Olympics because New Zealand stood with apartheid South Africa. Nearly 50 years on, that echo lingers and the stain remains far longer than we care to admit to ourselves.

"In some places, French postal workers now pick up prescriptions, return library books, and deliver flowers. Last year, only twenty eight per cent of La Poste’s revenue came from sending mail." Services can evolve in positive ways to meet new and growing needs.

3/ To be clear, these sorts of actions were outside the norm historically for ICE agents. Yet under Trump’s second term, immigration courts have shifted from being seen as relatively safe venues into places where immigrants face the risk of surveillance, arrest and sometimes even violence.

Yes, this is why the “they’re not groyper” fixation also misses the target because it is only a technicality. This *is* postmodern fascism at its heart. 20th century fascism was a result of industrial capitalism meeting nationalism while this the result of consumerism meeting racialized nihilism.

A fun fact about McCarthyism is that just two and a half years after he was condemned and censured, Sen. Joseph McCarthy drank himself to death at 48. Fevers break. Petty tyrants fall. Censorship and persecution drive good people to stand together and fight back.
