People keep sharing this article and I am literally begging journalists to read the fucking paper before publishing horrifically misleading summaries in the newspaper

to put it into context, the confidence interval here is so wide that allows for the possibility that there's a Cohens d of almost 1... favouring *cis* women over trans women on upper body strength. To claim equivalence when your CI is that wide and the studies that heterogenous is just absurd.

sometimes it really sucks being trans *and* a statistician. with some notable exceptions the scientific evidence base for most things about our lives is really thin, and you end up being the person who everyone hates because you just keep saying "these data don't tell us much" over and over 😔

okay yeah I did read that metaanalysis of trans people in sports paper, and walked away feeling the same way i do about every paper in that field: the evidentiary value is very low, unfortunately. its just one more sciency rorschach blob onto which everyone can project their preexisting beliefs :/
