Here is my main opinion on AI, in every capacity: What is the point of technology? Is it to make our lives better and easier, or is it to make a very small percentage of people richer? The latter is what AI is doing. The people actually doing the coding are making themselves redundant.

One of the most intelligent people I’ve ever known recently destroyed their life because a major life event transpired and they consulted ChatGPT on what to do. The situation worsened so they sought its counsel, following its advice over and over again into oblivion. Career and relationship gone.

The problem isn't that generativeAI will get so good it will replace artists. It can't and never will. The problem is that uncreative and incurious people will flood every venue with so much regurgitated slop that no artist has a chance of ever being seen or found.

If "AI" was as valuable as they say it is, they wouldn't be selling it to you. They'd be using it themselves in secret to make the next Minecraft, the next Avatar, the next Hello Kitty and then they'd sell that to you. They're trying to sell you a sick goose, while pretending it lays golden eggs.

LLMs are tools and all tools come with trade-offs. They might give quick answers, but at the same time they give more power to right wing tech oligarchs, speed up the climate apocalypse, spread misinformation, and repurpose work without credit from the less powerful. Are they worth that trade-off?

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
