This is a common story from triple A friends and, imo, as good an argument as any for why games should be drastically smaller productions. It's bad leadership, but also it must be easy to get paranoid about whether or not you have 'the thing' when the budget keeps ballooning. It becomes a cycle.

It sucks to see a train at the end of the tunnel for Bluesky's current direction. You can hear the train's horn go off like you're in Half-Life 2, and still see Bluesky won't change direction. I've seen so much software go through this disastrous direction. It never works out. Why keep doing it?

I had a great time today doing gamedev student portfolio reviews at Fontys in Eindhoven! Thank you all for your great questions. One thing that continually comes up through my university visits is: Just do it.

Sometimes you get given a task that makes you question why it is even happening. It defies all logic. When you question it, you only hear back excuses, and nothing that rationalizes it.

At GIC last week I had a moment that I may have experienced before, but has never been said out loud: I met some folks in a hallway, had a nice conversation about tool design, and then I left again. Later one of them sees me again and asks: "Why didn't you mention your background? It's awesome!"

I didn't think it would ever happen, but the GDC full access pass did actually lower in price, to $649 For comparison, Devcom is ~€400 for 2 days, so GDC's $649 for 5 days is a good deal. But, will folks travel to the US to make use of it? That's way more of a question at the moment.
