Good morning. I'm trying a new transportation mode to get to a conference in Leavenworth today! The Wenatchee airporter. First step biking to the light rail and taking the train to SeaTac.

One fascinating thing about e-bike discourse is the instinct, from both folks who ride and those who don't, to apply binary thinking. Is it exercise or not? Is it leisure or utility? Is it a toy or a tool? Do you do it to replace car trips or have fun? As if it can't be all of those things at once!

US House GOP & Dems have compromised on 5-year transportation bill. Draft bill includes a $150 annual fee on electric vehicles ($35 for plugins). No fee on gas-powered cars. Though not huge, this is another disincentive to shift to EVs in a country where the EV market share is low & declining.

5. There's something wonderful about the way you can interact with the world on a bike, powered or not. You can see a friend walking and pull over and have a chat - in a way you simply can't in a car. You get all these wonderful ways of seeing and interacting with the urban environment.

Studies show e-bikers ride much longer distances, and I can confirm this based on my personal experience. You get plenty of exercise, even with the motor. And, as a mountain biker, I don't drive to the trailheads anymore. E-bike all the way. I'm saving car trips.

Except you can't get from the trail to the Costco bike parking because there is a fence and median in the way. I have contacted Richmond & Costco to try to get a crossing added here, but no response.

Our cargo bike literally replaces 4 trips a day. At a *bare* minimum, I go to daycare and back twice a day. Typically though there is either a shopping trip, kid activities, or a dinner at a friend's house. I suspect we're taking 20 trips a week with the kids on the cargo bike.
