How is it that a CAR GUY MAGAZINE, a literal fixture of car culture, gets this right while @npr.org spent last week re-posting their victim-blaming slop and other more mainstream news orgs periodically do the same?

Good evidence this morning for why I basically never think of any bikeway as "protected" (vs separated). This fence was still intact as of Thursday. Today's drivers and engineers are reckless and dangerous enough that drivers will manage to crash into anything, even with curb separation.

That would shift the language from: able-bodied (norm) vs disabled (exception) to: disabled (norm) vs non-disabled (exception). Need something similar to shift the language from: motorist (norm) vs non-motorist (exception) to: [?] vs [?].

On Fri 9/5/25 9:15 am the [hit & run?] driver (?/?) of a 2016 Nissan Quest turning right from Pierce Dr to Lexington Dr hit & injured a pedestrian (52/M) crossing properly in a marked crosswalk. Police (MCP3408001S) did not find anyone at fault.

AND AGAIN. On Fri 9/5/25 11:40 am the hit & run driver of a 2014 Toyota Tacoma in the driveway of Trader Joe's parking lot, 10742 Columbia Pike hit & injured a pedestrian (64/F) properly crossing a driveway access. Police (MCP33620066) did not find anyone at fault.

On Sun 9/7/25 2:00 pm the driver (21/M) of a 2025 Ram Promaster turning left from Coquelin Terr to Jones Mill Rd left-hooked & injured a person (61/M) on a bicycle riding properly "with traffic" on the shoulder. Police (MCP301000C2) found the driver at fault.

Based on the crash report data it looks like a person (56/M, pedestrian) getting in or out of their car on Chestertown St, Kentlands was hit & seriously injured by the distracted driver (19/F) of a 2006 Volvo V70 on Sun 9/7/25 6:53 pm. Gaithersburg PD (EJ7906002N) did not find anyone at fault.

They built the concrete landing pad, then they ... put a bench and the bus stop pole and sign in it? This is an ADA violation, right?

On Mon 9/8/25 2:35 pm the distracted driver (78/M) of a 2024 Mazda 3 going north on Sligo Creek Pwy at Colesville Rd/29 hit & injured a person (31/F) on a bicycle crossing properly in a marked crosswalk. Police (MCP3384001Q) found the driver at fault.

On Mon 9/8/25 3:07 pm the driver (39/M) of a 2023 Lamborghini Urus leaving the parking garage at 33 Monroe St hit & injured a person (25/M) on a bicycle riding on the sidewalk. Rockville PD (DD5690000J) found the driver at fault.

On Mon 9/8/25 5:16 pm the distracted driver (19/F) of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata who was turning left in the parking lot drive in front of Giant, 842 Muddy Branch Rd, Muddy Branch Square hit & seriously injured a pedestrian (56/M). Gaithersburg PD (EJ786600GD) found the driver at fault.

On Mon 9/8/25 7:15 pm the driver (36/M) of a 2024 Mazda CX-50 going west on Fort Sumner Dr at Brookeway Dr hit & injured a person (36/M) on a bicycle riding properly in the road. Police (MCP243600JY) did not find anyone at fault.

On Tues 9/9/25 1:10 pm the driver (24/F) of a 2015 Lexus ES rear-ended and injured a person (49/M) on a bicycle while overtaking/passing him as he was properly riding west [?] on Quince Orchard Rd. Police (MCP25520085) did not find anyone at fault.

On Tues 9/9/25 1:58 pm the driver (39/M) of a 2014 VW Tiguan going west on Crabb Ave at N Horners Ln hit & injured a person (76/U) on a bicycle crossing in a marked crosswalk. Rockville PD (DD5644004C) found the bicyclist at fault: "dart/dash".🙄

On Tues 9/9/25 3:25 pm (MCP33470034) a 2016 Toyota Prius driver (45/F) (with passenger 16/F) turning right [on red] from Marinelli Rd to Rockville Pike/355 hit & injured a pedestrian (52/F) crossing properly in a marked crosswalk. Driver found at fault: failed to yield ROW, inattentive driving.

On Tues 9/9/25 5:15 pm the driver (29/F) of a 2025 Chevrolet Trax who was going east on Forest Glen Rd right-hooked & injured a person (35/F) on a bicycle who was riding properly in an on-street buffered bike lane. Police (MCP3074006M) found the driver at fault.

Now raise your hand if you've been run down by driver looking left to turn right on red while you were crossing in the crosswalk with a walk signal on.

Would be cool if the "urbanism/bike lanes/efforts to reduce car dependency are ableist" people would listen to disabled people who can't or don't drive occasionally. There's quite a lot of us.

On Wed 9/10/25 3:30 pm the driver (22/M) of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma turning right from Fairland Rd to Columbia Pike/29 hit & injured a pedestrian (71/M) crossing properly in a marked crosswalk. Police (MCP32620066) found the driver at fault.
