"Shared-use paths" should be wide enough for actual shared use, where people who are walking can do so comfortably and safely at walking speeds, AND people who are bicycling can do so comfortably and safely at bicycling speeds.

If you express concern about the dangers to pedestrians from e-bicyclists, but you dismiss the dangers to pedestrians and bicyclists from drivers as whataboutism, then your concern isn't about the safety of pedestrians. You just dislike e-bikes.

If we did limit road speeds to what's comfortable and safe for the slowest road user, things would be a lot different. Also, whichever mode you're using, whatever you're using it on: don't be a jerk.

When people say "E-bikes don't belong on walking paths."

It is reasonable to be upset about the dangers of e-bike users to pedestrians on shared-use trails. It is unreasonable to be upset about this while disregarding the reality that 7000 pedestrians per year are killed by motor vehicle drivers on shared-use roads.

Looks a lot like the trails, here, except it is lighted. Something like this would be useful on the Capital Crescent Trail between Bethesda ave. and River Road. There are a surprising number of trail users after dark. There would be more with some lighting. Currently no lighted path after dark.
