I feel so sorry for everyone involved in this tragedy, including the youth rider who must be traumatized by the incident in addition to all the social media threads calling for his head.

I found another rogue Chevron gas station ad in Emeryville again this week. Ironically placed right next to the free Emery Go Round stop, as if they’re trying to own themselves by comparison. Also conveniently installed right in front of another trash can, for easy removal.

Today the Chevron station owners in Emeryville thought it would be a good idea to advertise their gasoline with an unpermitted sign installed at a public park. Yes, I tossed the sign into that garbage can in the background.

Two months ago Caltrans took out the Oak St bike lanes in violation of Oakland’s 2017 constitution access guidelines. I’ve been bugging them about it via @bikeeastbay.bsky.social ever since & this week the bike lanes are finally being reinstalled, w work continuing through Friday.

Are Oakland drivers acting especially psychopathic this week, or am I just more sensitive than usual in response to the recent fatal crashes? I witnessed a driver make a series of intensely violent moves over five city blocks just to reach a parking spot about 5 seconds faster then me on my bike.

I’m at the Emeryville Sutter hospital campus community meeting tonight. First bombshell of the night is that the hospital planners have claimed that the relatively new car diverter on the Horton St bike blvd at 53rd St will need to be removed, in order to facilitate car traffic.

This tragedy involved a speeding driver on 85th Ave who lost control during a turn onto International. Adding to the tragedy is the knowledge that Oakland already has a major traffic safety project on 85th Ave which is expected to start construction this year.

Three people were killed and several others were injured after a vehicle struck cars and pedestrians near International Boulevard in Oakland late Saturday.

Those not deeply involved in traffic safety advocacy are usually shocked to hear the ridiculous “driver frustration” excuse from professional planners & engineers, but it is actually used with some frequency. It’s right up there with the “false sense of security” excuse.

Watering down increased vehicle miles traveled (VMT) mitigations for some roadway widening projects seems like a bad move. Climate change doesn’t care whether increased VMT is in a rural or urban area.

@berkeleyca.gov closed out my 311 report but the bike share station was still blocking the path as of this morning. It's now live again on the Bay Wheels app though, so hopefully this means it has been repaired & reset. If anyone is in the area & can confirm please let me know.

Update on Pinole's Active Transportation Plan (ATP): our concerns were heard, and the plan was approved with our recommendation for an additional review period. We want to ensure the final plan includes protected bikeways on San Pablo Ave, and that residents + local orgs have time to give feedback.

Will Emeryville be the first city in California with blanket 15 mph posted speed limits on all their bike boulevards? This is available on local (not arterial or collector) streets for all cities statewide, no traffic study required, thanks to Friedman’s AB 43.

I’m not going to name names, but there are a LOT of active transportation & transit advocacy non-profits that are in serious need of updating their sponsorship policies to clarify that AV companies are CAR companies, and their money isn’t welcome.

Not new lockers, but several of the existing BikeLink lockers at the Oakland Jack London Amtrak station have also recently been converted to accommodate large cargo bikes.

Brand new BikeLink lockers are ready to use at Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland, replacing the originals that have been there for a decade. These include 22 regular spaces + 2 oversized spaces for large cargo bikes.
