The difference btwn safer vs more dangerous cities/states/countries isn't the people. It's the street design, vehicle design, & overall exposure to cars via levels of driving miles. A focus on individual behavior is only a coping mechanism. This piece fails to examine the more systemic issues.

Future for riders is frightening if AC Transit expands hydrogen fleet and they continue to perform so poorly. At scale, 43% or 64% availability would lead to tons of canceled bus runs. A few years ago BART experienced similar availability due to rain/wheel flats, and it absolutely wrecked service.

800 detainees are missing after being held in Alligator Alcatraz in July, showing no record of their location in ICE’s database. Other detainees have been mistakenly deported or sent to detention centers thousands of miles away. The cruelty is the point.

The main goal of transit is moving people. Collecting fares is how society has currently chosen to partially fund that. But the new gate and reader system puts fares over moving people. And that indicates a loss of mission focus on everyone's part.
