As a former engineer who did a lot of ops automation and incident response, I'm pissed that Waymo either had no runbook for a mass power outage, or made massively optimistic assumptions. This was not competent disaster readiness, and we are lucky it's just a power outage and not an M7 earthquake.

I think part of the calculus is also the source of the revenue and the transit network design. If we make transit free but pay for it with a very regressive source we are just rearranging the burden on low-income households.

This is completely unacceptable! AC Transit’s hydrogen fleet has 43%-64% availability depending on model, leading to canceled bus runs and stops in the middle of service. They must address this to retain/grow riders. Transit reliability is even more important to riders than speed or frequency.

This has been a cursed project. It'll get there in the end, but we need change in how we handle civic tech. Expertise inside the government has to become a norm again. Delivering working products from day one has to be the norm. Ideally, open source should be the norm.
