This afternoon, our Select Committee on Housing Construction Innovation held its second hearing — focused on how we move faster, smarter, and more affordably by modernizing how we build housing in California.

California has made real progress on land use and permitting — but we still aren’t building housing at the scale we need. One reason: the way we build homes hasn’t kept pace with innovation. That’s what our new Select Committee is focused on.

Betty Reid Soskin was a defining presence in our district, and a force for truth, memory, and equity. At the Rosie the Riveter site in Richmond, she helped ensure our history was told fully and honestly. That work, and her legacy, will endure.
