It would not take a lot more funding to provide this bus service, just the will to use a small portion of highway funding for it. On the Richmond San Rafael Bridge MTC could use the $1 million+ they are spending annually to close the bike lane on weekdays to fund expanded bus service.

My family and I have adopted our block’s drain, clearing it of leaves and debris nearly every day. Today we cleared many drains in our neighborhood. It was especially fun for our 6 year old using super high tech tools - rain boots and sticks. You can do the same - an easy way to prevent flooding.

For nearly two decades I depended on AC Transit to get around. Then I moved to El Cerrito, where there’s almost no service, and I rarely ride buses. If they restored even a portion of the 70s service, me & my family (and many other El Cerritans!) would ride to school, shopping, BART, parks & more.

Took advantage of a break in the rain to hike and climb rocks in the El Cerrito Hillside Natural Area with my adventurous daughter. We’re so lucky to live in a semi-urban area and yet also live a short walk from such a wonderful place to hike and enjoy views of much of the Bay Area.

Happy New Year! I started my year harvesting produce from our garden in the drizzling rain. Somehow the tomato plants are still producing (though not fully ripening), and two of our pepper plants are still going strong, with dozens more peppers on the plants.

Had such a fun touristy day in San Francisco with visiting family. Rode a cable car for my 1st time in 20 years- our daughter’s first time and she loved it! Ate amazing ramen, had one of the best lattes, and visited giant Fairmont gingerbread house. And took advantage of free Muni/BART transfers!

Another preventable crash at an intersection with tons of pedestrian traffic. Driver turning left and either wasn’t paying attention or saw her too late. We need to do so much more to make East Bay Streets safer for everyone, particularly in places like this, where so many are walking or biking.

This will also be a mess for nonprofits and people who donate by check at the end of the year. Many nonprofits determine whether a check is attributed to a particular year based on postmark date. So that means some folks mailing checks this week will expect 2025 tax deductions and not be eligible.

Imagine what Bay Wheels ridership would be if it served cities beyond Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley. It would be a huge help with the last mile problem in East Bay cities with less bus service, including El Cerrito.

Pre-kid we used to take advantage of free AC Transit nearly every New Year’s Eve. Best deal you’ll find and no worries about getting home safely.

Crossing the street with my daughter to get to the park, I waved at the approaching driver. He didn’t slow at all because he was staring at his phone. How will I ever feel safe letting her walk to the park alone, even though it’s just a few blocks away? We need to make our streets safer!

We need to face reality. Unless there’s ample warning, we will not be able to safely evacuate everyone from any East Bay hills area if everyone is in their own vehicle. We need to plan for carpools and for those who are able to evacuate by biking or walking.

As a bike safety advocate, i came to better understand how we can’t have safer streets without addressing housing costs (i.e. build more) and increasing transit. Without the other two people will end up living far away, not have access to transit, and then be forced to drive making streets unsafe.

Amazing results in New York remind me how disappointing it is that congestion pricing efforts have stalled in San Francisco. With congestion pricing, Muni service could be robustly funded, transit ridership would climb, and traffic through much of the Bay Area would significantly decrease.

I love El Cerritans. ❤️ My family has been walking by a big persimmon tree for months. Today my wife knocked and asked if she could pick them. The neighbor was happy to share - he’d already picked 200 lbs of persimmons! We’ve sampled, and they’re delicious. Grateful for the kindness of neighbors.

Asking pedestrians to cross a five-lane, 74'-wide street with no signal or refuge is inviting them to die. This tragedy, and the countless before it on Caltrans-owned San Pablo Avenue, are the inevitable consequence of car-first, safety-last design.

Reminder that naturalized citizens are people who jumped through every hoop, did all the paperwork, passed the test, and swore an oath to this country. They did it all “the right way” and still Republicans want to kick them out.

Every time I see someone with a bike on a BART escalator, it makes me smile - especially this rider prepared for rain. Not all policy making is so visible & tangible. Two years after we started allowing bikes on escalators, it’s worked perfectly. I haven’t heard complaints or of any big accidents.
