Also the signal timing for getting to/from the center islands needs to prioritize pedestrians. On International the wait times were 1-2 minutes for those 1/2 crossings & even w no traffic around. As such riders got accustomed to crossing against the signal, which was associated w at least 1 death.

I think most Americans don’t actually think that there are people (like them) that live in these buildings. I think their minds categorize this like Disney World or the Universal Studios lot. It’s a stage set for their vacation. Just can’t grasp that locals live right here, in these buildings here.

The most important thing AC Transit can do is to set actual speed, frequency and reliability service goals (vision timetable) for the network. That way ACT, host cities, the public and funders know what discrete improvements are supposed to add up to.

Simply getting the state to socialize all that risk is not an alternative to substantially reducing the risk. If you do the former without the latter, you're basically hamstringing the state and penalizing low-income Californians who live outside the WUI.

The US car industry designs its vehicles to ensure back-over killing of children. I bet you didn't know this, but there are no actual safety regulations for cars in USA the way that you think of "regulations." NHTSA sets guidelines, but manufacturer compliance is voluntary and self-certified.

Every parent's nightmare to lose a child. Maybe every parent should say to themselves, "My fear is that my child will be struck and killed by a car or truck driver." Then say it to their spouse, then their parenting cohort, and so on. We all know where the danger is, but we have to say it out loud.

You can’t justify the need for a bridge by the number of people swimming across a river. And you can’t justify the need for sidewalks and protected bike lanes based on the number of people willing to brave streets designed solely for cars and not people.

Should we crack down on e-motos? Absolutely. Should we invest in training and education so kids ride safely? Undoubtedly. But honestly, I have to wonder: in how many of these reported incidents involving teens on e-bikes is the e-bike actually the problem—versus the driver?

This happened in my city last week. Since it seems like the entire world is obsessing over the potential dangers of teens riding ebikes lately, I feel like a reminder is in order: drivers are far and away the greatest threat to your kid and everyone else on the road, and always will be.

And Sacramento earlier this year. The city is not following Measure FF in good faith. Time for voters to make a stink!

Thrilled that the 30 minute grace period for entering and leaving a BART station is now live! I introduced and the BART Board passed this policy 3 years ago, but it couldn't be activated until Clipper 2. Now when there's a BART delay or change in plans, you can leave a station with no penalty!
