John Burton’s memorial services Sunday at S.F. City Hall saw UFW Pres. Teresa Romero & UFW members who won union contracts under Burton’s 2002 law. Greeting them was Burton grandson Juan Cruz, who he carried on his shoulders at the end of the march to pass the law.

It's grape picking season and "Alma" works 7-8 hours a day in the Madera CA area. She is picking a special black grape for wine. She gets paid minimum wage and no benefits despite temps being above 100°. She doesn't have a choice. Her work feeds her family. #WeFeedYou #CALOR

UFW remembers Rene Lopez who sacrificed his life for La Causa (1962-1983) On Sept. 21, 1983, Rene Lopez, a worker at Sikkema Dairy near Fresno, was shot to death by company goons hired to harass the strikers who were attempting to bring in the UFW to represent them.

"Beatríz" works in the grapes in CAs San Joaquin Valley & earns $17 hr. During peak season, she works up to 8hrs/day. However, because of the current heat she often works less as the heat is too much. She shares, "At 10 am sometimes it's already 85°." #WeFeedYou #CALOR

"Gia" is weeding around the blackberry plant. She says careful weeding is a must. It means less competition for water and nutrients and better growth and fruit production. Plus it's good for pest and disease control as weeds can attract pests that can harm the plants. #WeFeedYou

Oranges, carrots, grapes – Alejandra, an immigrant farmworker, has harvested all of these through extreme heat and cold. We spoke with her at a legal clinic we held with @ufw.bsky.social last summer about the harsh working conditions farmworkers like her face day-to-day.

The Oregon labor movement passed a number of historic and necessary resolutions at our convention. Among those, we unanimously passed a resolution supporting @ufw.bsky.social in a boycott of Windmill Farms mushrooms to support farmworkers in their organizing efforts.

"Maria" is laboring in Fowler, CA rolling up sheets of dried raisins. She must roll up 1,000 sheets of raisins to earn $50. She shares, "the rolling of the raisins has caused blisters form on her fingers." Her hours are 5pm-8pm. #WeFeedYou

"Ana" harvests strawberries on CAs Central Coast. She shares, "I earn two dollars for a box of 4 big plastic baskets. Harvesting strawberries is very difficult. You have to work quickly to make many boxes. I spend the entire day hunched over." #WeFeedYou

"Arturo" and "Omar" are setting up irrigation pipes to water the lettuce plants. The weather has been extra hot in Soledad CA and the plants needed extra watering to grow into the healthy lettuce bunches we expect to purchase at our local supermarket. #WeFeedYou

The Supreme Court made it easier for ICE to stop you for being brown. The Court sided with ICE, letting them continue targeting people based on race, language, where they are, or the kind of work they do. The ruling is a setback, but it’s not the end. Together we'll keep fighting.
