The cost of my reporting stared me in the face last week, when two Nazis showed up to try to intimidate me for my journalism on a private night out. But that’s far from the only fallout of my latest investigation. I took a few days, watching the reaction -- and now I’ve got much more to share:

We have a decades-long backlog of installing flashing beacons at intersections. It feels like we care more about overpasses than human beings.

Americans drive a lot more than people in other rich countries. If we didn’t drive so much, we wouldn’t die in so many crashes. It’s a simple point, but one that NHTSA, traffic engineers, and many road safety org’s have yet to learn. Me, in Bloomberg 🧵

Sad to say that despite Councilors @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social @lucymaloney.bsky.social @ptfry.bsky.social @seanorr.bsky.social tabling an amendment to save these important road safety motions (and a couple others), the ABC majority voted together to kill them. So much effort undone.

In 2024 @christineboyle.bsky.social had a motion to immediately install suicide prevention barriers on Granville Bridge. The ABC majority delayed it to the 2027-30 Capital Plan. Then they passed a "zero means zero" budget and this ultimately won't get funded at all.

It's good to see that the Welsh media are recognising that all the evidence shows that 20mph limits have significantly reduced death and injury on urban/village roads.

This is a particularly egregious example, but the lack of commitment to truth (aka lies) from people seeking and holding political leadership positions is appalling. And it damages our democracy. Which might be the whole point.

After Cllr Lenny Zhou is caught publishing defamatory libel, manufacturing falsehoods accusing us of being drug users/dealers and fomenting ugly divisive rhetoric --this statement is not an apology, it's not even an excuse. Zhou, communicating solely to media, while mayor so far fails to disavow.

This is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen. Context: 400 year backlog of sidewalk maintenance. Ever-decreasing road quality.

I was following all rules of the road, had the right of way, and was wearing bright clothes and helmet. I’m angry at the driver, who broke multiple laws and then tried to deflect responsibility. But I’m angrier at the system that allows this to happen again and again. 2/

Years ago we had the mayor bike to school with my then 6 year old, within the first :30 seconds they were almost hit by a driver on live TV. Every leader should be required to ride a bike (if able) with a 6 year old before they provide any direction on bike infrastructure
