A sales tax that funded the transit system would sure be good at capitalizing on events like the World Cup ... Property taxes, gas taxes, or a vehicle levy would do no such thing

The Carney government is getting scarily good at intentionally obfuscating funding announcements. What's being funded? Is this a reannouncement, or a new one? Which fund is this coming from? Oh, vaguely-named fund #312? Who knows anymore, just remain confused and presume disappointment

Do you ride the 49? There's a good chance you do, since it's the 3rd busiest bus route in the whole region! Bus lanes have been proposed along 49th all the way from Cambie to Boundary - yay!!!

My bike usage has skyrocketed with the introduction of better pricing on bikeshare, and the 7th St protected bike lane. And I've seen many more people cycling through uptown lately. Just the other day I saw 3 people on bikes in the span of 2 blocks on 6th Ave It's happening!

@movementyvr.bsky.social has never told anyone to take the bus. Instead, we tell politicians to make transit good. Because we know - through examples like this!* - that when it's good (frequent) people choose to take it! *and countless examples local to Metro Vancouver

Thanks to everyone who attended our New West transportation Jane's Walk yesterday! If you missed it, the summary: NW is doing great things for pedestrians, cyclists, and the public realm. But senior levels of govt need to step up (vehicle size regs, speed cameras) for NW to achieve vision zero.

I thought Carney was a builder of infrastructure? With $2.4 billion, we could quickly get to incredible levels of intercity bus service. Medical appointments, family visits, vacations, etc could all be done without a car. Instead, the people who can afford a car will save ~$5 per tank.

After *choosing* to cut $5 Billion from the long-promised-not-delivered Permanent Public Transit Fund, he now *chooses* to subsidize gasoline companies by more than $2 Billion. He makes choices, Canada’s urban communities have not asked for this, but will bear the load of those choices.

Rather than mock Surrey for having ambitions we should direct our ire at the Vancouver decision makers who would prefer Vancouver be some sort of a village
