The Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) has lowered the age for self-referral to 40. Early detection saves lives, and that’s why we want as many women as possible to book their mammogram—every year. Full disclosure: I have just booked my first mammogram!

I’m very saddened to read about the Ottawa Muslim teen who says she’s afraid to ride OC Transpo buses after being assaulted in August because of her religion. Racism, intolerance, Islamophobia, and antisemitism in our community are truly abhorrent and this marks a low point for our city.

Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day. We wear orange to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

Due to unexpected issues, the Pinecrest Recreation Complex Pool is closed. The remainder of the complex (community centre and arena) are open. Staff anticipate reopening on Wednesday October 1st for regular programming.

I watched the Premier's announcement on speed cameras. Not only is it full of incorrect claims, he also lists a litany of complaints about their implementation that are *entirely* within his jurisdiction to tweak... without having to entirely gut the program. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHvI...

It was my pleasure today to meet with the team from EqualVoice and to talk about my experience as a woman in politics. Running for office is never easy, and I enjoyed talking about some of the particular challenges facing women candidates and incumbents.

And unironically all the costs are externalized already for the 16,000-20,000 car crashes in #ottawa already. Folks think their insurance rates on perfect driving records aren’t affected? Or wait times in ERs? Or the 10s of millions for city services to clean and manage crashes?

Highway 417 westbound on-ramp from southbound Pinecrest Road will be closed overnight Monday, September 22 at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23.

Last Sunday, I was very pleased to attend Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement, held right here in College Ward, where I learned about a new national housing program called Build Canada Homes.

I was able to attend the launch of the first round of the Housing Forever Bonds but have to miss this one, congratulations to the @ottawa Community Land Trust!

Sections of the multi-use pathway (MUP) on the west side of the Pinecrest Stormwater Management Pond will be repaved on Monday, Sept 15 & Tuesday, Sept 16 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. To complete this work, the south entrance to the MUP network from Woodroffe Avenue will be closed on Monday, Sept 15.

There will be a closure of the 417 westbound on-ramp from southbound Moodie from Monday, Sept 15 11:00 pm to December for structural & landscaping work. Motorists will be detoured south on Moodie to Robertson, where they will travel west to Eagleson and enter westbound Highway 417.

Residents of College Ward have been incredibly tolerant of the ongoing and much-delayed LRT Stage 2 West project. It hasn't been easy - noise, dust, construction vehicles, and the closures of roads, highway ramps, sidewalks, and bike paths - often without much notice.

I'll be on CTV tomorrow morning responding to Premier Ford's suggestion that the province get rid of photo radar speed cameras from school zones. They've been proven to work, and they fund important and permanent road safety projects that wouldn't be otherwise built.

Tomorrow, the LRT will be opening the south sidewalk at Holly Acres and closing the north sidewalk to rebuild it. The closure will continue until December. Pedestrians will be detoured to the south side.

The third and final draft of the proposed new comprehensive zoning by-law is now out for public comment. View that here: engage.ottawa.ca/zoning/. It will for the first time in decades bring the zoning on every property in line with what the Official Plan requires. (1/3)

Hollyer House hosted a vernissage for its seniors painting group, a new program through the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre. Help me to understand how this isn’t another download onto the municipality from a government who is less interested in solving problems than they are causing them for regular people. Explain to me how this would be effective for parents, and functional for cities.

Beautiful weather, as always, on the day we gather to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for public safety at the Ottawa Fire Services Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony. An event made even more special by a solo performance by John Steele of ‘Bring Him Home’. Very moving.
