Olympic fever has hit Ottawa. Families, friends, coaches, and neighbours are cheering for athletes they’ve watched grow up in our rinks, on our hills, and on our local trails. We have 16 athletes from the Ottawa area representing Team Canada in Milano Cortina, and our entire city is proud of them.

It was wonderful to recognize Marci Morris with the Mayor’s Cup at the Ottawa Sports Awards and proclaim February 4, 2026 as Marci Morris Day in Ottawa. Marci’s energy and leadership have helped make sport in Ottawa more inclusive, and something our whole community can be proud of.

It was good to join my fellow big city mayors from across Canada this week for meetings with federal cabinet ministers, including Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

Throughout my career as a broadcaster, and now as Mayor, I’ve spent a lot of time in Ottawa’s rural communities, listening to the unique needs of rural residents. I joined the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting to move forward on the actions arising from the successful Rural Summit.

There's nothing more important than an ambulance being available when your family needs one. In the past three years, we've hired more than 140 new paramedic staff and reduced offload times dramatically. We've decreased the number of level-zero events by 80%.

We're finding more and more ways to build affordable homes, and build them faster. Today at the city's finance committee meeting, we unanimously approved new measures that will more rapidly advance three affordable housing projects in Ottawa amounting to more than 550 new affordable units.

Thank you to the members of the Mayor's Faith Council for another productive meeting. We talked about a wide range of issues, including how we can respond to incidents of hatred and racism and build a more compassionate, connected community.

What a day for hockey in Ottawa. We marked 50 years of the Ottawa Canadians while witnessing a piece of Canadian hockey history. The country’s first-ever outdoor junior-level game, right here in our city. This milestone honoured that legacy in the best possible way.

As Black History Month begins, we celebrate the many contributions Black residents have made to Ottawa and Canada. The histories-experiences of African, Caribbean, and Black Canadians are deeply woven into our shared heritage, shaping our culture, our institutions, and the character of our city.

Ottawa is very proud to be the hometown of Shane Hollander from the international hit TV show Heated Rivalry. Today I had a chance to meet Jacob Tierney, the creator of the show, Brendan Brady, the producer, and representatives of Bell Media.

Many cities have seen division and disruption over their new zoning bylaw. In Ottawa, we worked effectively and collaboratively to achieve consensus on a new bylaw that will make it easier to build new homes in Ottawa, particularly near transit and major corridors.

We’re saying yes to housing. That’s why council unanimously adopted a plan yesterday to eliminate or reduce the scope of 26 different studies that used to add time and cost to the housing process. We want to be the most housing-friendly city in Canada.

We have one chance to get the new high-speed train system right. That’s why I’m advocating for the Alto station to be located downtown, to boost tourism and economic development and revitalize centretown and the ByWard Market.

We all know that Ottawa is a terrific place to live. It's gratifying to see that Ottawa was ranked #1 among major cities, and #4 out of 454 cities overall, in the Globe and Mail's report today on Canada's Most Livable Cities.
