I’m very concerned to hear that many flood-impacted residents are being told by their insurance company that they may not be covered for their damages. That is devastating news for residents who are already dealing with the emotional, physical and financial toll of these floods.

If you were impacted by last week’s extreme weather event, help is available. The City is opening community information hubs where residents can speak directly with staff, ask questions, and get information about available programs, resources, and next steps.

If you’ve lost food because of the recent power outages, we’re making disposal a little easier. If your green bin is full, place additional bags of spoiled food beside it on your regular collection day. Just label each bag Green Bin. There is no limit to the amount of organic waste you can set out.

The team at the City of Ottawa is continuing to do everything possible to support residents affected by flooding. Here’s a new, additional measure for people who want to dispose of garbage.

Les précipitations record enregistrées aujourd’hui ont provoqué d’importantes inondations et des pannes d’électricité dans plusieurs quartiers de la ville. Le personnel municipal et les équipes d’Hydro Ottawa ont été mobilisés pour intervenir aussi rapidement et efficacement que possible.

Today's record rainfall has caused significant flooding and power outages in several areas of the city. City staff and Hydro Ottawa crews have been deployed to respond as quickly and effectively as possible.

While many of us are celebrating today, I want to take a moment to thank those who are working to make sure the festivities go off without a hitch and that everyone stays safe. Our city employees and federal partners are overseeing many events downtown and in the suburbs and rural areas.

Dropped in to see Ian and the team at the Black Pug in Alta Vista with Councillor Marty Carr. It was a great place to escape the rain, catch up with residents and celebrate Canada Day at one of the neighbourhood's favourite gathering spots.

There's lots of excitement in our community about Canada's next big soccer match on Saturday! I have been speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney about bringing everyone in Ottawa together to watch the game.
