I raised this with City of Ottawa staff last year. This kind of triple-use infrastructure (power generation + shade structure + heat island mitigation) is the kind of innovation that various levels of government should collaborate on to make it feasible.

If the email inboxes of my Ottawa City Council colleagues who are supporting Lansdowne 2.0 (I am not) are anything like mine, then surely they’re wondering if this will hurt their re-election chances. This will be a ballot box issue. As for me, I’m clearly on the majority’s side.

The irony of Mayor Sutcliffe calling out “myths” over his version of “facts” is something to behold. Is it a fact that “Lansdowne 2.0 will generate revenues that *will* cover 69% of the total investment”? Or is that optimism bias? Not that I’m trying to spread misinformation here.

After a long two days arguing about how the city should prioritize significant investment in all facilities (like the Nepean Sportsplex) instead of concentrating on Lansdowne, it’s nice to end the day taking my daughter to her ringette practice at the Sportsplex. Go Ravens!

The Charge isn't making an ask for financial support. They are telling you the facility isn't adequate. No, last minute tweaks to the proposal. If tweaking is required to get it enough votes to approve it, the contract / plan is not ready for approval. #OttPoli

Among the many exciting announcements at this AGM is the superb list and diversity of community rentals to the building and brand-new Pavilion. In one year: 341 rentals (including 47 birthdays), plus 2 weddings, ESL services, religious services, sports meetings, strength training, the list goes on.

I go to all of the Ward 9 community association AGMs. It’s always exciting to be at my own local neighborhood’s Trend Arlington Community Association’s big annual meeting. This year’s meeting focus is on getting the community to weigh in on climate action and community programming.

It was an honour to attend the bi-annual Nepean Sports Wall of Fame induction ceremony with several Council colleagues, as we heard the inspiring stories of several legendary Nepean athletes.

You should ask your councillor to survey his constituents on what they want, like I did. Challenge him publicly to do it. The results will certainly be as clear in his ward as it was in mine. The vast majority of residents do not support Lansdowne 2.0.

I’m inclined to agree: spending taxpayer money on Lansdowne 2.0 hardly seems like the most pragmatic option, considering so many higher-priority needs like transit, infrastructure upgrades, road and sidewalk maintenance, pedestrian safety upgrades, the list goes on…

This is the 2nd time I’ve heard Edmonton City Architect Carol Belanger talk about procurement and design in his city. These are municipal buildings. They encourage excellence over cost, to get best value for residents.

And it’s great that Ottawa’s new Chief Planner Marcia Wallace is one of the guest speakers for today’s event, alongside some pretty exciting voices in Canadian architecture and urban design.

Ottawa’s By-Law & Regulatory Services Department perform such a key responsibility to keeping our city safe, clean and livable. Was glad to join the Mayor, several Councillors, and Chiefs of Police and Fire in a ceremony recognizing the work of Director Roger Chapman and our By-Law staff.
