Heartbreaking news today in learning that Peter Clark, the Barrhaven crossing guard struck yesterday by a pickup truck, has died from his injuries. It's not my ward, but I've spoken to my colleague Councillor Hill about this tragedy. He and his community are devastated. 1/

What a day it must have been - and continues to be - for @hydroottawa.bsky.social. While there are still a handful of outages across the city - but no longer any in Ward 9 - they got a lot of problems resolved today. Thanks for the dedication!

Still several outages affecting Ward 9 (circled below), with multiple smaller ones as well. This is only a small portion of the outages affecting the city, including the massive outage in Stittsville - affecting almost 10K customers.

There are power outages all across Ottawa this AM, including a few in Ward 9. Right now there's a large outage in Parkwood Hills / Carleton Heights affecting 836 customers - restoration time expected 10:30am; plus an outage in CitiPlace affecting 224 customers - restoration time expected 1:00pm.

PLANNED POWER OUTAGE: Hydro Ottawa will be installing underground electrical infrastructure on Bowhill Avenue and Chesterton Drive on March 19, requiring a planned power outage from 9am to 3pm. Approximately 12 customers will be affected. 1/

Let me know if you're power is out in Ward 9. There was a large outage across many pockets of the west part of the ward (Trend Arlington, Craig Henry, Manordale, Tanglewood) but in my own neighborhood, it came back on in less than 10 minutes.

What a fantastic St. Patrick’s Day Parade. After a six-year hiatus, the Parade is back! It was fantastic to march with my Council colleagues, and to see so many Ottawa residents out to celebrate. Everyone’s a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

I'm so tired of decades of Mayoral candidates winning because of the keep taxes low promise. Can we have someone win that promises to build and maintain programs our citizens need and set tax rates accordingly? We work backwards every damned year to hit some magical number picked from the ether.

Does this not seem familiar to you? I’ve been raising this issue since taking office. Halifax’s current peril is Ottawa’s future threat. Looks like it’s time to continue talking about Urban3.

This is awesome. Having been through a pair of all-hands-on-deck natural disasters, it never fails to warm my heart to see neighbours working together to help take care of their own street. This is community. Way to go, Centretown!

Daniel is one of hundreds of volunteers across Ottawa who maintain our city’s outdoor rinks. And Daniel maintains one of Ward 9’s busiest rinks, in my own community of Trend-Arlington. Glad to see that he (and two of his many kids) got celebrated at the annual Rink Volunteers Appreciation Breakfast.

But here in Ottawa, whereas the original plan for the revitalized ByWard called for full pedestrianization of a key street, the “refreshed” plan will only see pedestrianization on key dates like Canada Day. We lack boldness, vision, and even commitment to follow through on the original plan.

Hey Mr. Mayor… Please raise my taxes and fund the quality of life items we need - libraries, transit, sports clubs… We are a national capital. Let’s build a city we are proud of.

Speaking as someone who pays property taxes, the people with the stability and security of home ownership are not the ones who are hit hardest by rising costs, and squeezing services to cater to this demographic will only hurt the people who are living paycheque to paycheque while rent goes nuts.

Once again, the Mayor boasts about how low our taxes are - we’re not even keeping up with the rate of inflation. But this ideological obsession long pre-dates Sutcliffe. It’s a point of pride in Ottawa, a city with almost the highest median household income in Ontario. 1/

I just got my first ever Seniors’ Discount, at the age of 55. I accepted the offer, because I saved $17. But now I just want to go home and sulk. Maybe I’ll watch Matlock.

I’m going to file this under “Awesome”. What a moment for this kid.

Agreed! Tomorrow promises to be an important - and long overdue - conversation about some implicit bias and unconscious values when it comes to when and where we prioritize safety for vulnerable road users.
