Transit riders are beyond frustrated and they’re demanding action. And they’re right: when you pay for a service, you deserve to receive that service. My motion is about accountability that leads to reliability — because riders want a system that actually delivers on its promise. 1/

My colleague @arieltroster.com lands an excellent point: a small % of the city’s homeless have such complex, acute needs, but with so little supportive housing, they turn to the shelter system, which is not designed for those needs: it drains shelter resources, and doesn’t help those people. 1/

Another interesting perspective. In Alberta, one of the “success measures” is based on the number of meals served in shelters, ie more meals = more positive impact. But that only rewards the institutionalization of shelters. Success needs to be viewed differently.

“A shelter is not a solution, it’s a process.” Shelters are not housing. They are temporary transitions.

So glad to be at the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa breakfast panel, hosted by @caradrianh.bsky.social, one of my favorite Ottawa journalists. The Alliance’s Katie Burkholder-Harris is a true leader on homelessness, as are my table mates @jleiper.bsky.social and @catmckenney.bsky.social.

This was great to see. Sure, it's a lot of fun, but it's a big economic opportunity for Ottawa's film and television industry. Glad to see @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social and the Ottawa Film Office building this relationship. As a board director for the Film Office, I'm excited for what's next.

Here with several Council colleagues (and the media) to get a briefing on the latest technical issue that’s hit LRT Line 1. I can’t even begin to guess how frustrated residents and OC Transpo riders must be about this latest setback.

Heads up, a Winter Weather Parking Ban will come into effect today from 10 am until 7 pm. During this time, all vehicles must be removed from the roadway - unless you have an eligible parking permit or are parking in exempted commercial main streets.

Awesome! Raising $375K at a gala to address youth homelessness is great. Of course, that's a fraction of what's needed to address the issue long-term. One way to double that amount would be an additional tax increase of 0.01875%, or $1.13 more per year for the average taxpayer. Food for thought!

It appears that power has been restored to MOST of the Tanglewood area, and much sooner than anticipated. This is great. However, power still appears to be out at the apartment building at 100 Medhurst, affecting approximately 100 customers. If anyone can confirm this, please do.

I have just become aware of an extremely concerning power outage affecting over 1.000 customers in the Tanglewood community. Not only is this the 2nd outage in 2 weeks, tonight’s is during a dangerous cold weather warning. I’ve asked @hydroottawa.bsky.social for an update. No word yet on cause.

Well that was fun! My team’s transit / rail expert @dunrae.bsky.social and I learned a lot more about ALTO and their exciting plans. I’m looking forward to seeing more dialogue with them and the City of Ottawa over the next several months.

It’s quite the vibe here at the ALTO consultation / info session for Ottawa (4 sessions in 2 days). Lots of excitement and optimism from ALTO employees and Ottawa residents alike! Sounds like we’ll know the precise route and station location by the end of this year.

Kevin Reed is leading the process to determine where a Defence Security & Resilience Bank. The credit he just paid to Invest Ottawa’s Sonya Shorey was amazing, for her work on drafting the strategy for Canada Defence Innovation Bank. What a tribute, and how lucky we are to have her.

So I’m now less enthused. After some rosy opening remarks from Mayor Sutcliffe, the next speaker’s macro-economic outlook is quite a bit more sobering. Everyone seems to have set down their salad forks, that’s for sure.
