It's weird to me that the Burnaby city line is where bike infrastructure goes to die... but not in the direction you'd think. Moscrop becomes an awful arterial road (East 29th), Rumble becomes a maze in Champlain Heights, Frances-Union becomes the busy stretch of Adanac crossing Highway 1, etc.

Just biked Keith Rd on the North Shore and the part in the DNV was terrible. The buffered bike lane up the big hill just... ends halfway up? To make space for a second GP lane that itself disappears three blocks later? The bike lane doesn't come back, the curb lane just becomes decorative hatching??

Something I like about bike infra in the NL is that flashing crossing lights are not a thing; everything is either a red/green green signal or a yield crossing, depending on context No RRFBs, HAWK signals, "special crosswalks", etc. On busy roads there's no ambiguity if cars can go or must stop

Biked through North Delta again today and I'm still baffled at the number of maze gates they put everywhere on bike routes. Does someone's cousin own a company that makes maze gates or something? Even the railways don't use so many.

Interesting new paper compares density upzonings in two similar BC cities that had dramatically different effects in terms of construction & value uplift. Keys to the difference? Effects were only felt when upzoning was accompanied with expedited permitting processes & reduced parking requirements.
