Good that this targets a very valid pain point of poor service span to YYJ without adversely screwing existing transit users. We need all levels of government to step up and properly invest in transit before transit staff is once again forced to consider robbing Peter to pay Paul.

This is one of those weird policy spaces where we have fallen behind Calgary, Edmonton, Kamloops, Toronto, every major American city, etc. I always come back to "why?", what with our reputation for leftyness? The situation is embarrassing and I hope that will make this campaign an easy win.

Under the proposed Xavier's law, *if* the driver gets caught, the cops *may* choose to suspend their license for *just* 30 days. In reality, they should be arrested and tried for attempted murder. Too bad that we live in a society where being in a car is considered a right and not a privilege.

After *choosing* to cut $5 Billion from the long-promised-not-delivered Permanent Public Transit Fund, he now *chooses* to subsidize gasoline companies by more than $2 Billion. He makes choices, Canada’s urban communities have not asked for this, but will bear the load of those choices.

The 1km of bus lane implemented as part of RapidTO Queens Quay East has significantly decreased runtime variability and travel times and increased ridership on route 114. We must roll out RapidTO city wide, no matter the political implication.

Buses are leaving people behind at Swartz Bay, forcing them to either take the milk run 72, wait for the next sailing's 70's (competing with the next ferry's passengers), or take a cab/Uber. This is the consequence of transit budget cuts that directly impact transit's ability to meet demand.

If we're trying to mitigate the cost of living impacts of this war, it seems like the right move is to improve transit so that people aren't forced to go into ruinous debt just to get to work. So that they have an alternative that's decent.

Transit investment is popular, regardless of political affiliation. Regardless what some politicians might want you to think, HSR polls at majority support from voters of ALL parties. Why are we not electing governments that are actually going to action on this broad electorate-wide support?

Just a reminder that the last announcement like this in BC - a new rapid transit corridor gets funding - was in 2018, when the Broadway subway and Surrey LRT funding was confirmed. (the LRT project was later converted to SkyTrain and reduced in scope).

As with all usage fees, transit is price sensitive, except you're monetizing time. The biggest usage fee with transit is actually time. Transit needs to be accessible regardless of income, and we also need to not penalize those that can't afford other options by forcing them to spend 3x the time.

After the fare increase, it will cost a group of four ~$42 to take the most efficient mode to YVR. Dallas and most British airports charge a de-congestion fee to drop people off at the terminal. I think that would be a more sensible way of raising $ than the AddFare, & would tame chaos at the curb.

here we go again A transit network is only as reliable as its weakest link. In Victoria's case, that weakest link is a mixed-traffic operation through a single point of failure. Nothing short of grade separation will make this single point of failure go away.

As it currently is, most car costs are sunk costs that are incurred whether a car owner drives or not, and actual usage costs are so cheap in comparison that car owners are actively discouraged from using another mode. Lowering that usage cost further is the opposite of what we should be doing.

That "alternate mode" only polled 11% is indicative of a far broader issue, where most costs associated with car ownership are sunk costs and actual usage fees are so cheap. If you own a car, you're actively discouraged from switching to another mode because you're paying those sunk costs anyway.
