completely apart from the music I just don't understand the appeal of seeing a show this big. It's so far away! You're just watching the monitors, which are also so far away that they're tiny!

I am aware that many people in prison would prefer to go outside and work for a nickel an hour instead of rotting in a box all day but that doesn’t mean the working for a nickel should be applauded it means the rotting in a box should be eliminated.

We saw this in the UK too: All of the allegedly "reasonable" concerns about bone density, low-quality research, lack of long-term follow-up, profits for Big Pharma, etc — magically disappear when it comes to cisgender kids receiving the exact same treatments.

We know Die Hard is not a Christmas movie because Christmas is not essential to its imitators. When you say “Under Siege is Die Hard on a boat,” it is not because Steven Seagal finds the holiday spirit and reconciles with his ex-wife.

the only space to move right on trans issues is to go full DeSantis and not allow transition for adults or even tiny accomodations like correct pronouns on IDs. And even if Dems do that, conservatives will just demand even more. YOU CANNOT APPEASE BIGOTS.

The most frustrating thing about this "debate" is that we already live in the world right-wingers say they want: Vanishingly few trans people play sports; medical providers require long assessments before transition. You cannot appease bigots because their stated concerns are not based in reality.

my secret plan to win over women, minorities, and low-motivation voters over the closing stretch is to drive around in a garbage truck dressed as a well-seared road flare threatening to kill various people and dunking on puerto rico

the funniest thing about all of this is I wrote a poem in my MFA program in 2016 in which Trump was represented as a big smelly garbage truck

Hostile reminder that "gender tests" in women's sports have NEVER caught a "secret man" but they have historically been successfully used to discriminate against high-performing non-white cis women athletes

lol this is fair but otoh i think it would be great for the country and party if "pass aggressive legislation to make people's lives better and reward your base, even with narrow majorities" became the party ethos and a path to career advancement, and i want someone like that advising the president

i think it's a take that's only possible if you don't understand that the democratic party is an institution with several factions competing for power. they have almost certainly strengthened their hand institutionally in a potential harris administration, because her factions ARE biden's factions

i wrote about this for my column on tuesday but i think we ought to think of policies restricting gender affirming care as explicitly aimed at expelling a disfavored population from the state in question

Laws targeting gender-affirming care have uprooted thousands. But places that are more supportive can also be more expensive.

Israel wants you to conceive of this as a war so you don’t notice what is really happening: violent reprisal against a captive civilian population, mass murder as collective punishment for revolutionary terrorism. If only one side has the means of conducting war, it’s not war.
