Today at the protest downtown, white organizers with 50501 called the police on a vendor for selling Black Panther merchandise in their protest even though he only had a small table and stayed out of the public right of way. Here is the vendor’s statement:

I keep meaning to post more. Lots going on getting settled in our new home and rehearsing for a show in NYC. I crashed today. ☹️ And have lots of MSK pain lately. It’s so hard to rest and pace when I need to. The world doesn’t slow down for chronic illness and disability.

PS I remember being in the ICU seeing multiple patients die every shift and having people accuse physicians of killing patients by intubating them (when they couldn’t breathe). The reckoning I’d like to see is on why people were so keen to demonize the people sacrificing ourselves to care for them.

If I could help non disabled people understand one thing about being disabled, it would be how important maintaining a baseline is. When you’re chronically ill, your baseline is everything. Even minor setbacks can be catastrophic, so we have to do a risk analysis before literally ANY activity 🧵

Also to clarify the first post-being disabled at work can be stigmatized for everyone, visible or invisible. Stigma contributes to people w/ invisible disabilities not even asking for accommodations because they don't want to "out" themselves.

Being open about disability at work (for those with invisible disabilities) can be very stigmatized. I'm afraid the snitch line for federal workers on "DEI hires" will set any progress on this so much.
