They enjoy telling others “you are superfluous”. “Your work can be done better without you”. “Your protests are meaningless”. The fact that the process of translation (or illustration, or writing…) is being reduced to valueless activity is, for them, a bonus. They’re glad.

And yet we are being replaced, willy-nilly, regardless of whether machines can or should replace us: it’s happening. And the people applauding it, for whatever reason, are gleeful. Not only do they not care what repercussions may be for other people: they ENJOY stirring up distress.

We translate books because reading, writing, creating, sharing with others, bridging cultures and communicating are human activities that give us a reason to live. Take the human element out, and what even is the point? Why do it if humans are not enjoying the process or the product?
