Thune says Senate Republicans are having a "robust" conversation about the SAVE Act, which he says he supports. "How we get to that vote remains to be seen." It doesn't have 60 votes. "There aren't anywhere close to the votes—not even close—to nuking the filibuster," he adds.

Thune says "progress" is being made on DHS funding and he hopes Democrats "would be amenable" to another CR if they need additional time to reach a deal.

Schumer, asked multiple times if he'd support a CR if there's no DHS deal in time, says: "There's no reason we can't get this done by Thursday."
