as of now my transition is protected by the fact that i work for a liberal city government. this is one of the better positions I could be in but the precarity is obvious and I'm haunted by a dangerous feeling of isolation from communal or activist practice

there is a certain condescension in the idea that “racism should be publicly unacceptable and come with consequences” is an attack on the “working class.”

christmas has gotten so far from its religious roots, wish we could celebrate our holidays like medieval christians (cross-dressing, being told by the bishop to stop cross-dressing, resolutely refusing to stop cross-dressing, threatening the bishop in defense of cross-dressing)

Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector. Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.

SEPTA defunding is going to go down as a cautionary tale against fiscal responsibility. you can count every penny, achieve efficiencies that put your costs an order of magnitude below peer systems, never expand the network and focus only on maintenance, and still get curb-stomped

imo the coolest thing about these protests is that they satisfy their own material demand - bodies in the street making it practically harder for ice to kidnap people! they fundamentally aren't about 'optics' and anyone concerned with that gives the game away immediately

Fred Clark has talked about how at the time of Roe v Wade, it was mostly uncontroversial among Protestants that abortion was a private matter and caring about it was Catholic shit; the Southern Baptists praised the decision. They didn't become "pro-life" till segregation became untenable as a cause.
