I am willing to be proven wrong in my Luddite ways but it seems like at this point we should have seen a short film or song or book made by AI that’s genuinely good, it feels like I’ve heard people squawking that within six months it’s coming for at least two years

gestured towards this in my column today but republicans seem to have adopted this idea that the partisan lean of a state represents some mystical General Will such that the south isn't just a place with republican voters It Is Republican and no democrat has a right to serve within its borders

one point i wanna highlight from this, cuz i haven't forgotten things from previous dem campaigns. in 2016, hillary had "expand medicare so people at 50 could buy in". 2020, biden had "expand medicare so people at *60* can buy in". 2024? medicare expansion as a policy is *gone*. dems got *worse*.

Georgia's governor signs a comically transparent law. It makes local elections in 5 big blue counties nonpartisan, to give GOP candidates a chance to win without a party label in places like Atlanta. And it doesn't change anything in the rest of the state, for red counties to know who's GOP.

Brian Kemp signs law making many metro Atlanta races nonpartisan
The law applies to most local government races in Democratic-dominated areas. A court challenge is expected.

feel like one of the (multiple) reasons people still argue with this is they know, consciously or unconsciously, they have basically no influence on the party, the party is almost sure to tell everyone on the left to eat shit again, so they get mad at people they do feel like they can influence

Every time someone states what ought to be, people rush to the mentions to explain that it won't happen, and now I am talking to those people, and I want to be very clear: YOU are the reason it won't happen. Every time you say that you are taking energy away from "should" and reinforcing "is."

Ah, ok. So the Court is saying the Virginia redistricting measure did not win by *enough* to go into effect. Interesting and not at all wildly corrupt and unfair.

One reason Republicans are banning books and classes on race is because reading even one book about Jim Crow or Reconstruction makes it clear that they are hoping to reinstate segregation.

if we're disqualifying everyone who had a sloppy steaks at truffoni's phase, that would remove about 90% of american men with thick, black, slicked-back hair from the political process. it's completely ridiculous. i'm worried the baby thinks people can't change.

This is interesting because it challenges two widely held political assumptions: 1) that people love it when everything at the supermarket is at least $8.99 and 2) that the easiest way to win voters over is to go on TV every day and say that you need to build a big event space or you'll die.

It's not hyperbole in the least to say Musk purchased a six-month shadow presidency for $280 million and used the power of that shadow presidency to 1. Steal the government’s data, 2. Permanently damage the state’s ability to regulate his businesses, and 3, kill non-white people.
