I strongly believe layoffs should be severely restricted during and after a major corporate acquisition. If you can spend billions adding a new plaything to your mistreated collection, you have the money to save all those jobs. Also, you can’t just close that company down. Also, fuck you.

There *has* to be better regulation of company acquisition. What Microsoft did to the industry was nothing short of legalized industrial sabotage. It’s corporate espionage without the subtlety but all of the theft. Rules against monopolies don’t cut it. This is different but just as bad.

It should never have been legal. Wholesale destruction of an entire medium isn’t something corporations should be empowered to do. Microsoft was laying off thousands of people at the EXACT same time it fought to acquire Activision for billions of dollars. How is that not utter madness?

Microsoft, Tencent, and their contemporaries cannot be forgiven for the way they vandalized and ransacked the game industry. Too many good studios have been stolen from the world by the companies that consumed them. Hell, *one* was too many. They burgled the house and then set fire to it.
