I do my best to be genuinely good to people—in large part because it makes me happy. So, something I learned this year's that I get…"squishy"…when attempts at meaningful benevolence get cast aside or crushed for the sake of maintaining normalcy, esp. if said norms are destructive or exclusionary.

A phrase I'd like to see become more common is "righteous anger". There are times you SHOULD be angry and let people know it. And lately it feels like we're being flooded with these kinds of situations, and the ones telling us to "calm down" or "be nice" makes me think they're, at best, oblivious.

One thing I definitely learned from 2025 is that some folks think it's better to commit to being "nice" or "professional." But these are not the attributes you remember people by. Especially when they're not around to be "nice" or "professional" anymore. You remember their actual character.
