If my writing about autism does anything, whether it be in my books, my columns or my reported stories, I hope it advances the idea that autistic people are whole human beings as they are with legitimate needs and inner lives that deserve to be told the same as other stories.

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

I took Tylenol as needed throughout my pregnancy. I am a doctor. I order Tylenol for pregnant women regularly. Tylenol is safe in pregnancy. RFK Jr is ignoring a huge recent well-done study because he doesn't like the answer it gives. There is no causality between Tylenol and autism.

This is, I think, the best push alert and makes me wonder why this directness isn’t the norm.

I keep thinking that companies who argue they don’t want to take sides in partisan politics are sort of missing the point. You don’t have to say, “we’re pro Democrats/Republicans”. You can just state your position on a few core issues relevant to your business and stand by them.

You talk about vaccines and Tylenol in a way that implies IF THEY DID cause autism, then it would be reasonable to avoid them.

Not really a fan of how most people talk about autism. Even those who support autistic people will act like it’s some disease to be avoided. Something we should be reducing the chances of. I think a lot of people do think that. Because they don’t view us as desirable.

I completely agree. It’s not realistic or practical to offer atheism as the alternative to Christian nationalist zealotry and hate. Offer an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming vision to religious folk and show them how much Christianity has in common with liberalism and liberal values. An off ramp.
