In California, people are too often killed by reckless drivers while waiting for the bus. We need: 1. Steel bollards protecting bus stops 2. Mandatory electronic speed governors in cars 3. Much stricter rules for getting and keeping a drivers license Riding the bus shouldn't be a death sentence

In many European countries, a single DUI will result in loss of license and mandatory prison sentence. In some, a second offense means you canât get your license back, and if you have lost your license due to DUI and you are caught driving, same penalty applies. Their traffic is way safer than ours.

Tax cuts were expected to juice consumer spending in '26H1. Instead, the refund increase per filer from '25 to '26 has been offset by higher energy costs. With gas at $4.50 & tax season over, the net effect will soon be negative. Rather than an accelerant, the OBBBA acted as a short-term buffer.

Single payer healthcare makes sense because the risk of getting hurt or sick is random; so price discrimination is unfair to unlucky people. Pricing risk to homes, OTOH, is good and useful. If you choose to buy a house in a flood plain or fire risk zone, you *should* pay higher insurance premiums!
