My favourite Paul Henry story. I was on a plane when he was sacked and immediately after the plane landed the pilot announced that Henry had been sacked and people cheered and clapped. It felt like a moment when people just stood together against racism.

I won an award at Sundance years ago and Sam Neill, whom I did not know, tweeted to me “we’re all so proud of you, sweetheart”. I can’t even express what that meant to me. That our most beloved national treasure, a man I worshipped, would take the time to write to me!

I didn't know Sam Neill closely, but we were 'pub and shopping neighbours' for over a decade. Not a bad word to say, never crossed paths without thinking "what a lovely, funny man." Would often see him at wine tastings, pouring glasses and tidying up alongside the bar staff. Normal as bloke.
