He's the sort of person where you'd say "raised good kids, entire neighbourhood will miss him, etc" and could go on and on without mentioning a single aspect of all the famous guy shit he did and it would still be a glowing eulogy

I didn't know Sam Neill closely, but we were 'pub and shopping neighbours' for over a decade. Not a bad word to say, never crossed paths without thinking "what a lovely, funny man." Would often see him at wine tastings, pouring glasses and tidying up alongside the bar staff. Normal as bloke.

You can talk about how hot Sam Neil was too. It’s what he would have wanted.

Remember how in Sleeping Dogs America sends troops to help oppress New Zealanders rebelling against a corrupt authoritarian regime? Seemed pretty sci-fi at the time.

I call for a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand as we mourn one of the very best human beings of the past century, who also happend to be quite a dab hand at acting. Mine is one of so many broken hearts the world over - what a fucking mensch.

Five years...goodness me. I remember following Dawn on Twitter after reading her exemplary reports on Grenfell, and continued to follow her for astute/funny/cutting political analysis (as well as updates on her cat Raymond). She is sorely missed for so many reasons.

I only knew Dawn through Twitter; she was one of life's good ones, was so intelligent & witty, & sadly departed way too soon. She knew the measure of the Tories & their cruelty,& the danger of Farage & his ilk. I would love to have read her thoughts on the Labour Party, & the UK as it is now.

really hungover so can't express this well but something about being at the emirates last night with everyone celebrating just felt like the complete antithesis of everything the right has tried to imagine london is. people want to get along, they just need a reason to be happy and have purpose
