When the MP nomination threshold in leadership contests was doubled in 2021, many of us warned this move was designed to keep left-wing candidates off future ballots. Sadly, this contest has proved us right. We should have had a conversation, not a coronation.

After this week's disclosures, it's concerning that Peter Mandelson continues to sit in the House of Lords with the Labour Whip whilst several colleagues remain suspended for voting in line with their constituents' views on welfare. It can't be one rule for some and another rule for everyone else.

This week, a cross-party study urged an end to the two-child benefit cap affecting 1.7m children. Alongside investments in Universal Credit, housing, and childcare, this plan could lift 4.2m out of poverty, including 2.2m in deep poverty.

Israel is holding 6,000 Palestinians without charge or trial. The majority are non-combatants. Some have been picked up at so-called aid distribution sites. They include young, elderly, sick & disabled people as well as medics & journalists.
