I'm a dual US-UK citizen. This past summer, I was prevented from boarding a flight with my husband back to the UK because my citizenship was questioned. It took me nearly a month to get home. It made me feel like no matter what, I'd never truly be seen as "British."

I often think back to a Greek taxi driver who once told me: "Too many people want the harshest laws they can imagine - for everyone except themselves." This thinking is rife on the right, but it is also prevalent in a significant minority on the left. And that last part always takes me by surprise.

This is accurate and true but also I feel like I need to point out that we used to get stories like this ALL THE TIME. This was the backbone of detective fiction, tons of TV, most superheroes and pulp heroes, etc. This is what they took from us.
