I've made some walking videos for YouTube and watched others. One thing I've noticed is that the algorithm doesn't like sharing "here's a nice walk" type videos but does like "try this exciting ridge walk" type stuff.

Sad but unsurprised to learn that only 5% of fathers take up shared parental leave. Not only does it require financial security, having just filled in the forms for mine (thanks, Jo Swinson!) they are pretty impenetrable and would fox many sub-par HR teams.

I’m not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t do. But smoking killed my partner this year in the most unimaginably horrible way. He was 41. People: you don’t want that. I swear with every fiber of my being that you don’t. It’s beyond awful. I’ll have nightmares for life.

Good article. My own hunch is that the 1914 truce was a last gasp of the culture of the prewar professional armies, for whom soldiering was just a job and the enemy to be killed but not hated. By December 1915, that dispassionate spirit had gone; total war required total commitment to a cause.
