It's not that rhetoric isn't useful. It's that not only is there an absence of a plan to combat what we're seeing, but on top of that, the rhetoric from many Democratic lawmakers feels detached. The messaging is ludicrously subdued. Unhelpfully formal. There is a massive failure in reading the room.

Democratic lawmakers need to understand something: Imagine your house is on fire. Fire truck shows up. Firefighters get out. They look at the fire, then at you, and say: "Such a fire is a grave threat. This house will not sustain." And just stand there. This is how many of you are coming across.

Trump is openly violating the law on a vast and unprecedented scale and everyone is acting like it's normal. NPR had a long story about finding a rare shrew. NYT said he was disregarding "legal niceties." This is an attack on the Constitution as profound as the attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
