Five years ago, a police officer shot & killed Andre Hill while he was leaving a friend’s house. Andre was a beloved brother, father, and grandfather. He was an avid basketball player and talented cook. He was a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, wearing a BLM shirt when he was murdered.

Gun makers often market firearms in ways that put the public at risk—appealing to kids with cartoonish imagery, video game references, or images of children with guns. Like Big Tobacco once did, they aim to hook future customers and encourage parents to “start them young."

After a shooting in 1996, Australia enacted sweeping gun safety legislation and experienced no public mass shootings for two decades and a significant decrease in firearm deaths. Now, Australian lawmakers are acting again to further protect people from gun violence after this weekend’s shooting.

Everytown just released its annual Crime Gun Recovery Report, which found that just four gun manufacturers – Glock, Taurus, Smith & Wesson, and Ruger – produced more than half of all guns recovered in crimes in 2024, despite the existence of more than 6K active licensed gun manufacturers nationwide.

Guns are the leading cause of death for college-aged people in America—but it doesn’t have to be this way. Our grassroots army of more than 11 million parents, students, survivors, and allies is fighting for a future where our kids can learn, grow, and thrive without fear.

There have been at least 159 shootings at schools in the US in 2025—resulting in 53 deaths and 148 injuries nationally. America’s epidemic of school shootings is a policy choice made by lawmakers who would rather cower to the gun lobby than support gun safety measures that are proven to save lives.

A student-athlete was shot and critically wounded while waiting for a bus to travel to a wrestling meet with about 40 other students and coaches at Stewartville High School in southeastern Minnesota this morning. The gunman then shot and killed himself.

An analysis of the K-12 School Shooting Database by The Trace found that over 99% of shootings at high school sporting events weren’t preplanned—most began as disputes that escalated. When people bring guns into these spaces, conflicts can turn deadly. More guns in more places do NOT make us safer.

Guns are the leading killer of college-aged people in this country. We are failing them by allowing this scourge to continue.

It’s true: Young children CAN discharge guns and do so with alarming regularity. In fact, preschoolers age five and younger are the second-largest age group who are most likely to unintentionally shoot themselves or others.
