No parent should ever fear that a school day could be their child’s last, but that’s exactly what Georgia parents are most concerned about, according to a new poll. The good news: Our volunteers will never stop fighting until our children are safe from gun violence—in Georgia, and nationwide! 💪

We are failing our children by allowing this scourge on their schools, neighborhoods, and communities to continue.

Our Georgia volunteers are at the state Capitol in Atlanta, calling on lawmakers to pass a bill that would ban small, Lego-sized devices called ‘switches’ that can convert a regular pistol into a machine gun. These dangerous devices make shootings more deadly and have no place in our communities.

In just the past couple of weeks, children as young as 2 have found guns and pulled the trigger, resulting in critical injuries and even death. These tragedies are preventable.

ELECTIONS MATTER: Last year, we turned out the vote for candidates committed to enacting strong gun safety laws, including 13 of our own volunteers who were elected to the VA General Assembly. Last week, the House of Delegates passed a slate of gun safety bills, which are now headed to the Senate.

A 14-year-old with ties to a neo-Nazi group and who engaged in a chat room with violent extremists has been arrested for plotting to carry out a shooting at a Florida church. Police found guns and ammunition in the teen’s home, including a gun that was easily accessible in his father’s nightstand.

A second-grader suffered injuries to his hand at a Maryland elementary school after discharging a gun he brought from home. Police are investigating how the child was able to access the weapon.

Two police officers were talking with a fraud suspect at a Georgia hotel when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officers in an “unprovoked attack.” Officer Pradeep Tamang, 25, died at the hospital. Master Police Officer David Reed is in serious condition.

Just weeks after the deadly shooting of Renee Nicole Good, federal agents in Minnesota have now shot and killed Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse with no criminal record and a person who had a legal firearm permit.

One year ago, a student opened fire in Antioch High School in Nashville, TN. In seconds, he stole the life of 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante. Josselin’s family immigrated from Guatemala to give her opportunities they never had. Her father said “she was my girl...I loved her. It’s not fair.”

Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly, were shot and wounded at their Indiana home after a man claiming to have found their dog opened fire through the door. Judge Meyer, age 66, recently announced plans to retire at the end of the year.
