Fourteen years ago today, Trayvon Martin was chased, shot, and killed while walking home from a convenience store in Florida. Trayvon should have turned 31 this month, but his life was stolen when he was only 17 years old. Trayvon should still be here. His family should not be forced to mourn him.

Eight years ago today, a teenager armed with a Smith & Wesson AR-15 opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. Seventeen students and school staff were shot and killed and 17 more were wounded, making it the deadliest shooting at a high school in modern American history.

Trump wants you to believe Alex Pretti shouldn’t have been armed at a Minneapolis protest—even though he was carrying a firearm legally, with a permit, in line with MN law—but somehow that rule disappears when it comes to Kyle Rittenhouse, who was armed at a protest in Kenosha & killed two people.

One year ago, a student opened fire in Antioch High School in Nashville, TN. In seconds, he stole the life of 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante. Josselin’s family immigrated from Guatemala to give her opportunities they never had. Her father said “she was my girl...I loved her. It’s not fair.”

Three years ago, a joyous Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, CA became a nightmare. A man armed with a semi-automatic pistol and high-capacity magazines opened fire inside Star Ballroom Dance Studio. He shot and killed 11 people, most of them Asian-American, and wounded nine others.

After the shooting in Parkland, Florida lawmakers took action to keep guns out of the hands of teenagers. But this week, gun extremists in the Florida House pulled the state backward on gun safety, passing a bill to lower the age to buy guns back down to 18.
