They didn’t want to say it out loud: that in order to pay for permanent tax cuts for the wealthy, they had to cut health care for Americans.

My mom was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. Fighting with health insurance companies so that she could get care is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. That experience drives the work that I did in the House, and certainly, why I’m here on this floor today.

Carl Levin would never complain. He would act. He would investigate. He would take on both parties, and he would find common ground.

The Supreme Court decided ICE can use race and language to profile individuals. This fundamentally chafes against anyone who cares about democracy, and we shouldn’t have segments of our population walking around in fear. The President is using a policy of division as a tactic.

President Trump is trying to end mail-in voting.

But we’re overdue for change. The good news is that we have a moment of rare opportunity here. Trump is indeed burning everything down. But instead of snapping back to the old way of doing things, we have to build something new out of the ashes.

Every American deserves to live in a safe city. But there's a right way to go about it and a wrong way. Putting the U.S. military in uniform, armed, on the streets of our cities and against the will of local authorities, is not it.

Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect others, and in doing so, they are unfortunately exposed to dangerous chemicals that increase their risk of cancer. Ensuring that these hardworking men and women have access to regular, free cancer screenings is the least we can do.

When I decided to lay out a new vision on national security, I did something many would not think to do. Talk to Michiganders.

We have a big deadline to the fund government on September 30. And if the President wants my vote, he has to negotiate. One place to start is to walk back cuts to health care.
