It is extremely good if Mayor Pete, generally perceived to be as middle of the road as they come, is talking about packing the court and DC statehood.

Musk functionally ran the US government for 6 months last year and managed to: increase spending, slash services, kill 100,000s, and help nurture both Ebola & Screwworms. Yet somehow no one mentions this when they talk about the company he is going to take public this week.

I swear to god that the Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars song “Uptown Funk” song was secretly written back in the 90s as promo music for ABC’s TGIF lineup. They just changed “Friday night” to “Saturday night.” Tell me you don’t picture Jaleel White dancing when you hear “Don’t believe me, just watch.”

We're taking a first step to delivering Seattle’s number 1 and number 2 priority: creating clean, accessible, and safe public bathrooms. Today at 1pm I'll be in Pioneer Square for a toilet paper ribbon cutting to open these new facilities.

For more than a century, the city has tried to provide a free toilet in Pioneer Square. The World Cup has prompted a new attempt by the city to make restrooms accessible.

The Pundit's Fallacy is basically ubiquitous now. No one even tries to avoid it. For those unfamiliar: the pundit's fallacy is when you say, "the way for [politician or party or movement] to succeed is by [doing my exact policy preferences."

This is pretty fundamental community organizing strategy, too. You organize not by hyping people around politics in the electoral sense but by focusing in on a problem the community has the power to change. And then you organize people and you change it.

The target audience for AI companies isn’t the general population. They’re selling to upper management, exclusively. Every other push for generative AI is just to manufacture consent.

A wholesome story for nerds: On Saturday, I was signing books at a local bookstore for Independent Bookstore Day. The store had a signing-palooza with new authors every hour; toward the end of my hour, a woman came up and asked what my book was about. "Dictionaries," I said, and she lit up. 1/n

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is. GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart. But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

I'm rewatching the Chernobyl series on HBO, and the opening voiceover from Legasov resonates: "What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all."

If we get to determine what people who get money from the government buy for groceries, and demand that they justify their lives? Make it start with every Federal elected offical and judge, and their staffers. We pay their salaries, they can provide receipts for every meal and grocery bill.
