It’s no surprise that Michael Jordan doesn’t “believe” in load management; he’s admitted to being addicted to competition! What his comments do show is how some high-level NBA execs/owners fundamentally don’t understand what load management is.

This is core to the constraints-led approach (CLA) (and its parent Ecological Theory) that @jaredweissnba.bsky.social recently wrote about re: Wemby. Where developmental programs go wrong is that they misevaluate an athlete’s ability to grow from failure and/or they mentally crush the athlete.

A question that is always trying to be answered in the motor learning domain. This seems to be true for all sports: exposure to variability derives better competition performance. Experience is full of variability; less experienced athletes need patient coaches who excel at introducing variability.

A degree in three years design has been in the works for a while across academia and it would not surprise me if it becomes commonplace in the near future.

Some context: a Haglund deformity sounds scary but it is just a build of bone where the Achilles attaches to the heel. It can be quite tender and cause chronic pain/discomfort, but it's not an overly serious condition in the grand scheme, orthopedically speaking.

Suggests it's between a grade 1 (mild) and 2 (moderate) strain. Grade 1s can be tricky as the athlete feels good and a lot of the strength values are good, but architecturally the muscle isn't sound yet. Need to make sure all i's are dotted and it's are crossed before a return.

So many soft tissue injuries to start the NBA season. Unfortunately, we tend to see increased rates for at least the first couple of weeks compared to the rest of the season.
