What did you think Woke 2.0 meant? Vibes? Papers? Essays? It means not putting up with this nonsense anymore, and not rewarding you for it.

a key to understanding the reactionary right, for me, is the realization that there are pleasures in cruelty "and no you are not immune." there's something in the human soul that delights in having someone to look down on--or at least, the capacity for this exists in us

The index of consumer sentiment isn't broken; models that try to predict it just don't have the right input variables. I fix that and find that, yes, high nominal price levels explain why the vibes are so off. It's the prices, stupid

But people are absolutely desperate for explanations that link negative sentiment to real-world conditions. The reason why is that it analytically simplifies things: as long as people are just responding to something in the real world, you don’t have to consider whether social dynamics have changed.

In literary analysis, if you find a new way to read a text that is interesting and consistent within that text, but, you know, is not the author's intent or physical reality - well the author is dead and you've done great scholarship. In history...well that's just called 'being wrong.'

Americans, I beg of you to understand that the Semana Santa tradition in Spain is much older than Klan terror. The Klan stole the Holy Week dressing from this tradition to hide their identities and engage in racist terror. (Read the comments, and you'll see why this message is necessary.)

Should not be surprised the movie that basically treats revolutionary politics like cosplay and fetishizes, waters down and turns Black womens contributions to dual power politics into a farce would win Best Picture over a movie about the importance of marginalized art, yet I’m still disappointed.
